Tyrone Truitt graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1977. Tyrone was a three-year varsity letter on the Southern Track Team from 1975 through 1977. In 1976 Tyrone tied the school record for the 100-yard dash with a time of 9.9 seconds. In that same year he broke the school record for the 220-yard dash with a time of 21.9 seconds.
Tyrone was known for his tenacity during track meets. His teammates would always say whether he won or lost his demeanor never changed.
In addition to being on the varsity track team for all three years, Tyrone also played on the Junior Varsity Football Team during his Sophomore and Junior years under coach Paul Delvecchia.
During his time at Southern Tyrone participated in other extra-curricular activities. Including the South Philadelphia High School Choir, Dance ensemble, and was cast member in the production of the play “Damn Yankees” in 1977.
