South Philadelphia High School Alumni Charter

CHARTER OF THE SOUTH PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

 

I. NAME

The name of the corporation shall be the South Philadelphia High School Alumni

Association (the “Association”).

II. OBJECTIVES

The primary purpose of the Association is to award deserving graduating high school students scholarships to institutions of higher learning. In addition, this Association is formed to further fellowship and comradeship among South Philadelphia High School (SPHS) graduates; to advance the betterment of home, school and faculty relationship; to foster scholastic achievement programs; and to coordinate and correlate the activities of the graduate class organizations.

To recognize the outstanding achievements of our graduates and to honor several of them yearly by inducting them into the Cultural and Athletic Halls of Fame; to recognize the service of outstanding Southern High teachers, select members of the Executive Committee, and distinguished members of the community with yearly Awards of Excellence.

Additional and/or alternative purposes for the Association will be approved by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. Once approved, additional/alternative purposes for the Association will be described in amendments to this charter and/or the Association’s bylaws.

III. PLACE OF BUSINESS

Its business shall be transacted in the city of Philadelphia.

IV. TERM OF EXISTENCE

Its existence shall be perpetual.

V. MEMBERSHIP

Its membership shall consist of those who attended South Philadelphia High School who have paid the requisite lifetime membership fee.

VI. MEETINGS

Meetings shall be held, at such times and places, as may be fixed by the bylaws.

VII. OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The officers of the Association shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer. The elected officers shall make up the Executive Board. There shall also be an Executive Committee as defined by the bylaws.
